Health Working Group
One of the greatest challenges for any newcomer is navigating our health care system. Understanding which facility to visit when you’re sick, how to book an appointment, where to go for lab work and imaging, and getting past language barriers can all prevent newcomers from accessing the care they need for themselves and their families.
Some of the ways we’re helping to change this reality:
• Introducing local health care facilities to “Language Line Solutions”, a service that provides real-time interpretation services that care providers and front-line staff can use when working with clients who are not fluent in English
• Creating “tip sheets” for newcomers to help them understand health topics like immunizations, proper handwashing, and how to complete lab testing
• Hosting learning events to bring together health care experts and the community
