Community and Social Inclusion Working Group
The early days and weeks following the arrival of newcomers in Canada is typically spent managing the practical aspects of settlement: finding a home, getting signed up for health care, applying for a social insurance number and beginning a job search. Once these tasks are managed, newcomers can still feel isolated and like they aren’t fully connected with their community. The CSI group helps create a welcoming community where newcomers don’t just survive, they thrive.
Some of the ways we’re helping newcomers integrate successfully:
• Meeting with staff from the City of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Transit to discuss how services can be made more accessible for newcomers
• Working in partnership with Indigenous organizations to plan opportunities for newcomers to engage with Indigenous people and culture
• Developing resources that help newcomers understand tenant rights, and working with property owners to help them understand cultural differences and challenges newcomers face related to housing

Statement of Purpose: The Lethbridge LIP Community and Social Inclusion Working Group was established to help newcomers improve their sense of belonging in the community, and to help them successfully access important resources and services.
