About Us

Who We Are

Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, Lethbridge Local Immigration Partnership is part of a network of more than 80 similar “LIPs” across Canada. While each LIP sets its own objectives based on the unique needs of its community, all have a common goal of improving the community’s capacity to better support the integration of newcomers.

Lethbridge LIP is led by a coordinator and a steering committee known as the Community Partnership Council (CPC), composed of members of the community. The CPC sets terms of reference, goals and outcomes for the partnership and determines what areas of focus will be addressed by the working groups, also composed of community members.

What We Do

As opposed to providing direct settlement services to newcomers, LIPs collaborate with local stakeholders such as service providers, businesses and economic development, educational institutions, health care providers, libraries, recreation facilities, law enforcement, cultural associations and houses of worship to find and implement sustainable solutions to systemic issues in immigrant settlement.

At the beginning of each LIP contract term (typically 3-5 years), the partnership will conduct a community needs assessment to identify current challenges and service gaps for newcomers, and determine areas of focus such as health, employment, or addressing racism. Once these themes are identified, the LIP will form working groups (also composed of community members) and develop an action plan.

In addition to forming a council, working groups and action plans, LIPs support community-level research and strategic planning, and foster capacity building through knowledge sharing and training.
